You built a WooCommerce store, set up COD as a payment method because your customers prefer it, and now 30% of your orders are being returned. TCS and Leopards are charging you double shipping for every refused delivery. Your profit margins are being eaten by customers who placed orders they never intended to receive.
WooCommerce does not natively solve this problem. It has no fraud scoring, no customer verification, and no evidence generation. You need an external system — and you need it to connect automatically, not add manual work to your order processing.
The Core Problem with WooCommerce + COD
WooCommerce treats COD like any other payment method. When a customer checks out with COD, the order goes straight to "processing" status with no verification of whether the customer is genuine. There is no:
- Phone number validation
- Fraud risk check
- Customer confirmation step
- Evidence trail for disputes
The result: bots, competitors, and random visitors can place hundreds of orders in minutes. Even genuine customers place orders on impulse and refuse at delivery. Without a confirmation gate before shipping, you have no protection.
How OrderWitness + WooCommerce Works
Zero manual work after setup. Every new WooCommerce COD order is automatically scored and verified. You only touch orders that need human review (high-risk holds).
How to Set It Up (5 Steps)
Create an OrderWitness account
Sign up at app.orderwitness.com. Free plan includes 50 orders/month with full WooCommerce integration.
Go to Settings → Integrations → WooCommerce
Enter your store URL (e.g. yourstore.pk), your WooCommerce Consumer Key and Consumer Secret from WooCommerce → Settings → Advanced → REST API.
Copy the webhook URL and add it to WooCommerce
In WooCommerce → Settings → Advanced → Webhooks, add a new webhook: Topic = Order created, Delivery URL = your OrderWitness webhook URL (shown in the integration page).
Sync your product catalog
Click "Sync Products" in the integration settings. OrderWitness pulls your WooCommerce products so the AI WhatsApp assistant can answer customer questions about stock, pricing, and variants.
Connect your WhatsApp Business number
Go to Settings → WhatsApp and connect your Meta Business WhatsApp number. This is what customers receive the confirmation from. Unbranded numbers still work but using your own number looks professional.
Webhook requirement: Your WooCommerce store must be publicly accessible for the webhook to fire. Local/development stores (localhost) won't work. Your store needs a live domain with SSL (HTTPS).

What Gets Automatically Synced From WooCommerce
| Data | How It's Used |
|---|---|
| Customer name | Personalises the WhatsApp confirmation message |
| Customer phone | Number to send confirmation to + fraud check |
| Delivery address | Address anomaly scoring + blacklist check |
| Order items + values | Shown in WhatsApp message, used in value outlier check |
| Order total | Determines risk tier (high-value orders get stricter rules) |
| Product catalog | AI assistant uses this to answer customer questions on WhatsApp |
What About WooCommerce Order Status?
OrderWitness does not automatically change your WooCommerce order status — it manages status within its own dashboard. This is intentional: you decide when to mark an order as shipped in WooCommerce, based on what OrderWitness tells you. This avoids any accidental auto-cancellations on your WooCommerce side.
Your typical workflow becomes:
- Open OrderWitness dashboard in the morning
- See all orders sorted by: Confirmed (ship these), On Hold (review these), Rejected (cancel these), Pending (wait for customer response)
- Ship confirmed orders, cancel rejected ones
- Go to WooCommerce and update statuses accordingly
