WhatsApp has 95%+ smartphone penetration in Pakistan. When a customer places a COD order, the fastest and most reliable way to verify they actually want it is to send them a WhatsApp message and ask them to confirm. Done correctly, this single step can reduce fake order rates from 30% to under 10%.
But "sending a WhatsApp message" can mean very different things depending on which WhatsApp product you use — and the differences matter enormously for automation, evidence generation, and compliance.
The Three WhatsApp Products Explained
- Free to use
- One device only
- No API access
- Cannot automate
- No business features
- Free to use
- Business profile
- Catalogue feature
- Quick reply shortcuts
- Still manual — no API
- Full automation
- Multiple users/devices
- Interactive buttons
- Message templates
- Official Meta product
For COD order confirmation at scale, only the WhatsApp Business API (also called the WhatsApp Cloud API or WhatsApp Business Platform) supports the features you need: automated sending, interactive YES/NO reply buttons, and message delivery receipts you can store as evidence.
What a WhatsApp Order Confirmation Message Looks Like
A well-designed confirmation message is brief, clear, and contains two interactive buttons. Here is what customers receive:
Assalam o Alaikum! 👋
We received your order:
Order #12847
Product: Blue Kurta (Size M)
Amount: PKR 2,500 (COD)
Address: House 14, Block C, Gulberg, Lahore
Please confirm so we can dispatch today.
When the customer taps Confirm Order, the platform records the response with a timestamp and the customer's WhatsApp number. This record is what becomes the evidence PDF.
Why buttons matter: A customer replying "yes" in a normal chat can always claim their phone was used by someone else. Interactive button taps are tied directly to the customer's WhatsApp account and are much harder to dispute.
How WhatsApp Business API Message Templates Work
The WhatsApp Business API requires all outbound messages (messages sent to customers who have not initiated the conversation) to use pre-approved templates. Meta reviews and approves each template before it can be used. This is the main setup step.
Template approval typically takes 24–72 hours. A standard order confirmation template contains:
- A greeting with the customer's name
- Order number, product name, amount, and delivery address
- Two quick-reply buttons: Confirm and Cancel
- Your business name and phone number
Once approved, the template can be used for unlimited order confirmations without further review.
Setting Up WhatsApp Confirmation with OrderWitness
-
Create a Meta Business Account
You need a verified Meta Business Manager account. This is free and takes about 10 minutes to set up at business.facebook.com.
-
Register a WhatsApp Business phone number
Use a dedicated SIM card (not your personal number) specifically for business WhatsApp. This number will send all order confirmation messages to your customers.
-
Connect to OrderWitness
In your OrderWitness dashboard, go to Settings → WhatsApp. The guided setup walks you through connecting your Meta Business Account via OAuth. No technical knowledge required.
-
Submit your confirmation template
OrderWitness has pre-built templates ready for submission. You customise the brand name and language (English or Urdu), then submit to Meta for approval.
-
Test with a real order
Place a test order with your own phone number. You will receive the confirmation message and can verify the YES/NO buttons work before going live.
WhatsApp Confirmation in Urdu
For sellers whose customers speak primarily Urdu, sending the confirmation in Urdu significantly improves response rates. An Urdu template looks like this:
السلام علیکم! 👋
What Happens When a Customer Does Not Respond
Not every customer responds to the confirmation message. A typical confirmation window is 24–48 hours. After this period:
| Customer Action | System Response | Your Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Taps Confirm ✓ | Order confirmed, evidence PDF generated | Normal shipping cost |
| Taps Cancel ✗ | Order cancelled, evidence PDF generated | PKR 0 |
| No response (48h) | Order auto-cancelled | PKR 0 |
The 48-hour auto-cancellation is one of the most valuable features. A customer who does not bother to confirm is statistically very likely to refuse at the door. Auto-cancelling these orders eliminates a large category of fake orders with no manual intervention required.
WhatsApp Confirmation Rates by Industry in Pakistan
Based on data from OrderWitness sellers:
| Product Category | Avg Confirmation Rate | Avg Response Time |
|---|---|---|
| Fashion / Clothing | 68% | 2.1 hours |
| Electronics / Mobile accessories | 74% | 1.4 hours |
| Beauty / Personal care | 62% | 3.2 hours |
| Home goods / Furniture | 79% | 4.8 hours |
| Food supplements / Health | 55% | 2.7 hours |
Tip: Confirmation rates improve significantly when the message is sent within 5 minutes of the order being placed. Customers who place orders and then browse other sites for 30 minutes are easier to pull back while the purchase is still fresh in their minds.
Cost of WhatsApp Business API Messages
Meta charges per conversation, not per message. A conversation is a 24-hour window triggered by a business-initiated message.
- Utility messages (order confirmations): Approximately $0.0047 per conversation for Pakistan
- In PKR at current exchange rates: approximately PKR 1.30–1.50 per order confirmation
- For 500 orders/month: approximately PKR 650–750 in Meta API fees
This cost is separate from your OrderWitness subscription and is billed directly by Meta to your Meta Business account. OrderWitness does not mark up API costs.
